Metal door frames are not just for factories and high-security buildings any longer. Today, it is not unusual for these door frames to be used at motels, apartment buildings, and even private residences. There are several reasons why a door frame of this type may be beneficial in all these settings. Here are a few examples.

First, there is the measure of security. Metal door frames are made with high-quality metal which cannot be splintered or broken down with the ease of traditional wooden door frames. These door frames make it harder for burglars to gain access to the premises, and thus help to make a home or apartment a safer haven for anyone living in the domicile.

Along with security, there is also the matter of durability. Metal frames hold up well in all sorts of weather and will easily outlast many wooden frames on the market today. When treated with a sealant, the typical steel door frame can withstand humidity, extremes of heat and cold, and also hold up under a constant barrage of rain, sleet or snow. The sealant can also help minimize nicks and indentations that some of these same weather conditions can create for wooden doors frames.

The metal frames of today can be just as ornate as any other type of door. It is possible to have the facing for the door crafted to resemble the pattern of the interior doors, thus keeping the design of the home in balance. The facing can also be treated to resemble any type of natural wood, or painted any color desired by the homeowner. In short, steel door frames used for residences do not have to look like the steel doors found in manufacturing plants. The frames can be created with any look found with more traditional wooden doors.

This combination of durability, style, and security is especially attractive in areas where crime rates are rising and the well-being of loved ones is of paramount importance. Far from being just a security door, metal exterior doors can be practical and attractive as well. While they do tend to cost a little more than more traditional frames, they easily pay for themselves in terms of low maintenance and the peace of mind they bring to the household.

Purchasing metal door frames is easier than ever before. Most home supply stores will have several types in stock. Some hardware stores also carry a few them in standard sizes. If a custom door frame is desired, there are several manufacturers that will create them with dimensions that are specific to the needs and wishes of the client.

Whether residential, commercial or institutional, all means of egress are made secure by using some sort of door and frame even if only to keep inclement weather or pesky insects outside. Metal door frames can be designed to be weather and bug resistant. Today, when an opening requires strength, security, durability or maximum fire resistance in any combination, steel doors and frames provide the qualities to meet these needs.

Whether it's for commercial or residential purposes, a steel entry door is top of the line in strength, security, and can also add an impressive style to the exterior.

Whether you are simply making simple upgrades to your home or completing a major renovation, a steel entry door is a great option over wood or fiberglass. Even though they are generally used in commercial buildings and garage doors, more homeowners are upgrading to existing doors with the steel variety. Installing a durable steel door in the front, back or side of your home can improve your home’s energy efficiency and security.

First and foremost, do a little research on the different models and additional options. Think about buying a standard, pre-fabricated steel entry door or have one custom made to your liking. There are numerous options if you decide to customize it. Take your time shopping as you will be presented with a multitude of styles and finishes like a basic primed door ready for painting, vinyl coated in a beautiful wood-grain pattern, or even a wood-fiber coating you can stain, yourself.

Steel entry doors generally come in 16-25 gauge steel and higher end doors are 26 gauge. The higher the gauge, the heavier and sturdier it will be. They are filled with a foam insulation to produce a thermal barrier and the frame underneath the steel outer skin will be made of either wood or steel. Expect to pay about $100-$150 for a basic door, and higher prices based on customization and features.

Although steel entry doors are often more cost-effective than wood or fiberglass, they do have their drawbacks. The Do-It-Yourself homeowner may find them hard to install, mainly because they are very heavy. Some come coated with a polyester finish or a vinyl coating. Vinyl is the most durable but should not be painted; should they become stained or discolored, they will need to be carefully cleaned specifically according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Steel doors primed with a coating suitable for painting are easier to scratch, but will allow for cosmetic upgrades such as painting or finishing. Dents can be removed in the same way that dents are removed from cars.

When searching for steel doors online or in local stores, choose stores that that specialize in them, because the staff is usually more knowledgeable. That will ensure you are happy with your final purchase. Notable companies like JELD-WEN, Benchmark, Pelle and Masonite all have highly informative websites where you can find a dealer or local store near you. Shop online first to see what styles are available, and then choose the features and accents you want. Masonite carries the Masonite HD Steel and Sta-Tru HD Steel doors. They even have a door designer program built into their website to help you. JELD-WEN carries many models including Energy Steel, FiniShield and Gladiator steel, all ENERGY STAR qualified doors.

Choose carefully which door(s) to install for your home, as they are a focal point when placed on the front of your home, and you most likely will keep those doors for a long time. If you need privacy and security, then a solid steel entry door is for you. If style is your main concern, then consider choosing a striking pattern and adding sidelights or spend more money for a double-door entry. Complete the look with your choice of hardware and accents.

An overhead roll up door is commonly made of steel or aluminum and is used for garages, auto body shops and other types of commercial entrances.

In most cases, the typical roll up door is made up of steel. It increases the security of the building to which it is attached, because it is made of a tougher material, rather than a material like wood. Thus presence of steel, for example, makes the door hardier. This type of door is much less prone to suffering most sorts of damage. It is much more difficult to penetrate through a steel roll up door, so security breaches such as trespassing are virtually impossible. For commercial warehouses and other building types, the more numbers of roll up doors a building has, the greater is its security. The current trend shows that the modern buildings are doing away with the normally designed doors, and instead going for the roll up doors.

Before you attempt to install roll up doors at your facility, you must diligently follow certain measures. The total number of doors needed must be decided before you do anything else. After that, decide what materials you need to construct the doors, and then calculate how much of those materials you will need to build the number doors you have decided your building needs. Sometimes, a roll up door is fixed in front of a glass door, acting as an outer covering. The rolled metallic portion of the door stays at the top like a cylindrical stack when the door stays opened. Used like this, the door takes up no extra floor space.

Roll up doors are typically used for enclose garages on homes or at commercial facilities. It uses a spring-like tension to roll up to the ceiling of the garage much like rolling paper towels around a dispenser. It is usually comprised of a metal like material such as steel for durability and is contained as one complete unit. This is different from a generic door which slides on metal enclosures with an electronic remote control normally installed, separately. It is estimated that roll up doors will soon become the only type of door used for garages.

Most roll up garage doors are visually pleasing and come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and designs. You will often see a garage door that matches the home’s existing outside decor. There are far more designs and colors available beyond the standard and old-fashioned white square door design. Additional features that you will find with roll-up garage doors are key-less entry with remote access, long-lasting durability, and even climate controlled temperature functions. Additionally, they will provide you with security by locking things from coming in your garage from outside, and by preventing items in the garage from escaping.

For increased safety and convenience, choose a roll up door to replace older, less secure doors you may be using, right now. Roll up doors are excellent to use, not just for the home, but also for commercial use. This type of door is also available in different designs, styles, and materials which assure you that you can get a door that will match your personal taste.

You may be surprised to know that the pocket sliding door could be made from glass since they slide into the wall but many amazing styles and designs are available. Whether looking for something chic and modern, a simple and clean look, or character and whimsy, there are interior sliding doors available to any look you want.

If you are thinking of installing interior sliding glass doors, you have several options. For example, glass pocket doors have become an incredibly popular solution. The previous versions of this type of door became very popular among decorators. Interior sliding doors made from wood were most popular years ago, and doors now made of glass have provided a beautiful yet functional solution. You may be surprised to know that the pocket type could be made from glass since they slide into the wall but many amazing styles and designs are available. Whether looking for something chic and modern, a simple and clean look, or character and whimsy, there are interior sliding doors available to any look you want.

Besides redecorating with pocket sliding doors, other styles of glass doors are also available. For example, if you needed to create a room divider between a bedroom and home office but you something out of the ordinary, you could use a sliding panel variation, whereby the doors would be suspended from a track installed on the ceiling. This type of top-hung style allows you to open up the space up by pushing the door to the side, or section off the larger room into two rooms by positioning the door as the divider. Then, to finish the look, it is important to choose the right hardware.

Also consider purchasing bypass glass doors. These are normally used on closets, wardrobes, or even pantries. For practical use, these would simply slide past and behind one another to open them. To close them, the doors would be adjacent to one another, meaning the doorway or open space is completely blocked. These doors work by installing tracks on the bottom or top of the door frame. Afterward, depending on the look want, you can further decorate your doors with etched, clear, frosted, or even colored glass.

Over the years, people have realized the importance of using interior sliding doors. Sliding doors used on the inside of the home have not only fulfilled the purpose of providing security and privacy, but they have also introduced the concept of room partition. Whenever it is required, the doors can be opened and a room can be given a bigger space. They also come as many types and styles as you can imagine. If you want to upgrade your home décor with new doors, consider upgrading to sliding doors in your bathroom shower, closets, or cabinet furniture

Commercial door hardware has to meet specific requirements set out by different groups like the ISO, but that doesn't mean you can't get creative with the exterior appearance of your store entrance.

Every single day, millions of people, worldwide, enter, use, and exit public buildings. We work, shop, study and play in commercial buildings. Most people take for granted that public buildings are deigned for their safety, and that elements like doors are going to perform properly and as expected every single time. If we had to stop and think about how the door might work every time we entered a public building, it would put a real strain on how we do business and go about daily life. Fortunately, it’s organizations like the ISO that help make all of this easier, by providing peace of mind for consumers and users of everyday products, like commercial door hardware.

The ISO (International Organization for Standardization) was formed in 1947. It is a network made up of the national standards institutes of 157 different countries around the world. It works with scientists, manufacturers, and other industry experts to create product standards that “meet both the requirements of business and the broader needs of society.” The ISO serves to ensure that international standards for products and technology are developed, encouraged, and adhered to by whole industries, including product manufacturers. International Standards “provide a reference framework, or a common technological language, between suppliers and their customers.”

1) Products will perform in the same manner no matter what part of the world they come from. Pertaining to commercial door hardware, such as exit devices, the devices will perform safely and in the expected and acceptable manner just as it if were made in the United States.
2) Technology is shared. ISO member countries work in partnership with one another. They share information and technology.

Commercial property owners and entrepreneurs have a lot to think about when setting up a store. Planning the building, office, store or warehouse design is typically left up to contractors while the owner concentrates more urgent business matters, like inventory and staffing.

But neglecting to get involved in the design process may lead to unexpected and potentially detrimental issues, such as inadvertently lead to excluding patrons with disabilities. It may ultimately result in a lawsuit. Choosing ADA compliant commercial door hardware is the responsibility of all parties involved in the building process, including both the contractor and the business or property owner. The United States Department of Justice enforces the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA.)

The Act became law in 1990, designed to protect Americans with disabilities from discrimination, by providing them with equal opportunity to jobs, shopping and everything else encountered in everyday. The ADA requires commercial property owners to design their buildings, offices, store space, etc. such that they are fully accessible to people with disabilities. The word “disabilities” has a broad definition, but for the purposes of commercial building designs, it speaks of Americans with limited mobility.

Commercial door hardware can be expected to perform to the standards set out by the ISO. These standards apply to the United States, as well as the other 156 member countries around the world. Within the United States, commercial door hardware also meet the requirements of the ADA.

Commercial door locks are a crucial piece of exterior security hardware.

Any time you set up a new door in the home or office, one of the most important factors to take into consideration is security. Sure, depending on your needs, you may want a door that looks nice aesthetically, but at the end of the day, having a strong and secure door should be one of your top priorities. Use commercial door locks to add a level of safety to your home, storefront or office to help give you the piece of mind when watchful eyes cannot be present.

Depending on the type of commercial door you have set up, there is most likely a wide selection of commercial door locks readily available for you to choose from. Of course, it goes without saying that the number one priority of the lock should be functionality, and not style. Many people get distracted by cool looking commercial door locks that may appear secure, but really the manufacturers spent too much time worrying about style. Make sure that whichever type of door lock you decide to purchase is functionally efficient first, and appeals to your taste in style second.

There are certain products where brand recognition is not so important. With commercial door locks, however, that is just not the case. You want to be sure to go with a trusted brand of lock, as there is a reason that certain manufacturers have become more popular than others. Some of the best brands to choose your commercial door locks from include, but are not limited to, Schlage, Arrow, CRL (Cr Laurence), Falcon, Summit and Yale. Whichever brand you decide to go with, make sure that is a positively reviewed manufacturer.

When it comes to installation of your commercial door locks, this is a job that is best left to the professionals. Even an extremely handy person should not risk messing up the job with a door lock; it is worth the money to have the lock installed by people who have experience. Chances are, the store which you purchase your commercial door locks from will offer some sort of installation service if you desire. The other option is to go to your local locksmith and inquire about the prices for installation on commercial door locks.

If you are looking for stores in which to purchase your door locks at every day low prices, you are in luck, assuming you have a hardware store close by. Some of the more popular hardware stores to choose from are The Home Depot, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Ace Hardware, USA Industrial Supply, Kolsen Korenge, and Gridline Supply.

The other important factor when choosing the right commercial door locks for you needs is the dimensions and materials of the wall. Sure, you can probably get by installing any lock on any type of door, but certain commercial door locks are better suited for metal doors, while others are better used for wooden or glass commercial doors. The best thing for you to do would be write down the dimensions of your door (including the depth of the door itself), and the material of the door, in order to help choose the best possible lock for the job.

A commercial garage door is commonly made of glass, wooden and aluminum overhead parts.

If you are looking to set up a new garage or fix up a preexisting garage in your home, then one area you may be focused on improving is the garage door. In general the shape and structure of commercial or industrial garage doors is the same as one you would find in a residence, however they are often slightly larger in size. This can be useful for a bigger sized garage or storefront space that needs an area for cars to be able to pull in.

There are essentially three different types available for the commercial garage door. For a company or back of store, one of the most popular types of doors is the rolling style of door. These doors are most commonly metal in color and have horizontal panels all the way up and down. They usually are opened via manual pushing and retract into the top of the garage. This type of commercial garage door requires its fair share of maintenance, as dents to the panels are common and must be properly dealt with in order to ensure a smooth opening and closing. The most popular type of residential and commercial garage door has overhead sectional units, which fold into the top of the garage structure as it is opened. Most homes choose to go with this model. The final option is more common in areas like warehouses and it is the sliding commercial garage door. This type of structure is easy to open, as it just slides left or right. This is not an option for the common consumer, however.

When choosing the right commercial garage door for your home, one of the most important accessories that you will most likely have to purchase is a garage door opener. Long gone are the days of the manual garage door; it requires too much manual labor in the common society to have to lift the garage open every time you need to enter it. Simply put, it is much more efficient to have a garage door opener that will allow you to enter the garage at the click of a button. When people install their commercial garage door with a garage door opener set up, they commonly choose to get a receiver as well. A garage door receiver is most often placed in the car of the homeowner and allows you to press a button as you near the garage door, which will subsequently open the garage as you come home. Think of it as your own personal drawbridge welcoming your car back into the castle after a long day of work. Of course, if you want to close the garage door after pulling out in the morning, a receiver enables you to do that as well.

These days, it is highly recommended that whichever type of commercial garage door you decide to purchase, you consider a model that has a built in motion sensor or is compatible with an external motion sensor. The primary reason for this is a safety concern. Too many accidents take place involving children or animals getting caught under a garage door. Prevent this by having a safe motion sensor system set up that will stop the commercial garage door from opening or closing as soon as something crosses its path.

Entry hardware such as commercial door hinges are commonly offered in strap and offset styles.

Choosing the right commercial door hinges may require more thought than you would think. Many people fail to even notice the existence of door hinges, as we are so used to simply having a door opening hassle free. We rarely stop to think about what is making the door open so seamlessly. The answer to that of course, is the door hinges. Commercial door hinges in particular should be set up in a way that makes the door easy as pie to open. If people do not recognize the barrier to entry in the form of the doorway, then chances are the commercial door hinges are doing a great job. No one should have to think twice about opening a door, and the process should be effortless.

When it comes to choosing a style of commercial door hinges for your needs, the large number of choices available on the market may overwhelm you. There are commercial door hinges available in a multitude of shapes, colors, sizes and overall styles. One of the most important factors, of course, is the type of door you are working with. Certain commercial door hinges are made to work with glass doors while others are better suited for bulky, metal industrial doors. Knowing all the specifics of your commercial door will help in choosing the right commercial door hinges for the job.

While choosing a trusted name brand for your commercial door hinges it is not as important as doing so with your locks, it is never a bad idea. Choosing a reliable manufacturer helps to guarantee your purchase will be suitable for your needs. It just so happens that many of the top name brands of commercial locks also manufacturer commercial door hinges. Some of these brands include Shlage, Yale, Arrow, Rubbermaid, and Cr Laurence. Aside from the aforementioned lock manufacturers, some of the notable brands that specialize in commercial door hinges include, but are not limited to, Dorman, Falcon, Artic Air, Stanley, Perlick, and of course, National Grid.

Installation of commercial door hinges is a topic unto itself. Chances are you will have the hinges set up as the door is installed. It is best to do these processes in one fell swoop in order to keep costs down. When choosing the right style of hinges for your needs, one piece of advice to keep in mind is that you do not want to go overboard. Door hinges are most likely something that you do not want people to notice. So when in doubt, keep it simple with your commercial door hinges and go for functionality over style.

Of course, it should come as no surprise that commercial door hinges do need a certain amount of maintenance. There are two important factors to be aware of in order to ensure proper functioning of your door hinges. The first is routine oiling of the hinges. After a while, commercial door hinges have a tendency to get rusty, so its important to grease them up every now and again. The other important thing to do is routinely tighten the screws. If your commercial door is getting a lot of entrance and exit traffic then you will want to do so every few months.

If you are looking for a great style of commercial door to implement in a new store or high traffic entrance way, then one option which you may want to consider is the commercial glass door. Glass entrance doors give off a modern look that allows potential customers to see the produce, and may even subconsciously lure them in to make a purchase. It comes as no surprise that major department stores such as Macys, JC Penney, TJ Maxx, Bloomingdale’s and others implement the commercial glass door in most of their entrance ways.

One of the more important factors to take into consideration when choosing the right commercial glass door for your entrance or exit area is the dimensions of the area in question. It should come as no surprise that these dimensions should be absolutely precise; a commercial glass door that is too big or too small will serve you no good. If the measurements are off, then chances are you will need to pay for additional construction work in order to even out the size. Prevent this from ever occurring by getting strict dimensions prior to starting the job.

When it comes to choosing the right commercial glass door for your business or space, there are several different styles and options to choose from. The most contemporary styles of commercial doors made of glass have a complete glass frame, giving them an almost futuristic look. You can find a commercial glass door that is available with a sensor, making them automatically open, or this which have a handle or lever to push the door open. One popular style for the commercial glass door in an office is to tint the glass, making the interior of the office impossible to see into from the outside. I can say from personal experience that once our office added a tint to our glass door, it gave a world of improvement in terms of professionalism in the office aesthetic.

One other important decision to make when selecting a commercial glass door is the type of handle which you want the door to have. You also have to decide on which direction you want the door to open; some people prefer the traditional type of door, which you push, rather than pull, but others prefer doors that require pulling to open, rather than push. It is simply a matter of taste of the buyer. Then of course there is the matter of security. Regardless of the type of door you choose, you should always have it be compatible with a high strength lock.

When it comes to finding the perfect commercial glass door for whatever your needs may be, you should be aware of the best places to look. In general, the best bet to find the perfect commercial glass door would be to go to a hardware store of some sort, as they will most likely have a nice selection to choose from. This can be anything from The Home Depot, Walmart, Lowe’s Home Improvement, or your local hardware store.

Any time you are thinking about opening a store or other type of structure that many people will be walking in and out of, one of the most important elements to take into consideration is the doorway. It is essential to have an efficient method of entering and existing a store, and therefore the entrance must be easily accessible. A Commercial door is the most common type of door used in the aforementioned areas. The Commercial door is not recommended for the home, but for any other type of structure, it is considered by far and wide the best option available.

When it comes to choosing the right commercial door for your office, store or other area, you have many options and styles to choose from. These days, one incredibly prevalent type of commercial door is that which has handicapped access functionality. There are several ways to go about adding handicap access to an entrance or doorway, but the most common way of doing it is to have a button that upon being pressed, will open up the doors accordingly. Another easily accessible and efficient type of commercial door is that which has sensors for movement, allowing the door to automatically open when something obstructs the sensors path. These are the most popular styles of commercial doors in places like department stores such as Walmart, Target, Kmart and others, as well as in major supermarkets such as The Food Emporium, Whole Foods and Kroeger. If you have need a commercial door for an area with a ton of traffic such as the aforementioned places, then you will want to look at automatic sliding doors. If you need a commercial door that will provide a barrier to entry, then you will want to look at doors that require opening via a push handle or knob. This would be appropriate for an entrance to a school, as you want to make it slightly more difficult to enter a school or classroom than a supermarket.

Whichever style of commercial door you decide to use, there are a few factors that you will want to take into consideration in order to help you choose the best option for your needs. It is likely that you will want to have a setup that will allow you to use locks after closing hours; make sure whichever commercial door you choose can be locked with ease, if necessary. You also want to be sure that the commercial door is made out of a material to your suiting. Some of the more popular models of the commercial entry are made of materials like aluminum, glass (panel), wood, steel and other types of high strength metal. If security is your main priority, rather than aesthetic, then you will want to consider a high strength steel commercial door or similar material. If you are looking for a stylish commercial door, then you may want to consider a wood or glass commercial door. There is no right or wrong with color of your commercial door, it is just a matter of preference.
